Kastle, a startup building what it calls an AI workforce for consumer lending, has raised 24 million dollars in Series A funding led by Insight Partners, with Y Combinator, Commerce Ventures, and new investor Fifth Wall also participating. The company says its AI agents have already processed more than 1.8 billion dollars in lending transactions for banks and other financial institutions.

The shift this signals is not another AI point tool bolted onto a bank’s stack. Kastle’s pitch is explicitly about avoiding a systems overhaul: its agents work inside a lender’s existing core infrastructure, executing high-volume, repeatable underwriting and servicing work while staff handle the cases that need judgment. “We give financial institutions an AI workforce that can operate across the systems they already have, so they can capture the benefits of AI now, not five years from now,” said Rishi Choudhary, Kastle’s co-founder and CEO, in the announcement. That in-place deployment model is becoming the dominant pattern for AI in regulated lending, ahead of the riskier, full-replacement approach vendors pushed a few years ago.

The insight lenders should sit with is what the funding round’s own language reveals. Insight Partners managing director Rebecca Liu-Doyle framed the investment around compliance, not just speed: financial institutions need AI “that can reliably complete the work while ensuring compliance.” That framing is doing more work than it looks like. Explainability and accountability for an AI-generated lending decision remain the institution’s legal responsibility, not the vendor’s, regardless of how autonomous the agent’s daily output looks, a distinction that is likely to matter more as agentic underwriting scales faster than the rules governing it.

Kastle’s raise lands alongside a broader build-out of AI inside regulated banking roles, from the new charter race for AI-native banks to state banking regulators formalizing their own AI examination frameworks. The capital is arriving well before the supervisory playbook is settled.
