Fidelity National Information Services launched what it described as the industry’s first agentic commerce offering for banks on January 12, enabling AI agents to conduct secure transactions using preapproved payment methods. The platform integrates “know your agent” (KYA) data alongside card credentials, creating a verification layer purpose-built for machine-initiated purchases.

Visa Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard serve as launch partners, enabling AI agents to safely initiate and transmit transactions across both networks. Initial capabilities span authorization, fraud detection, and customer servicing, with planned expansion into loyalty programs and data-powered use cases.

FIS CEO Stephanie Ferris stated: “Agentic commerce represents a next fundamental shift in how consumers interact with financial services, and our role is to ensure banks lead it.” The company cited McKinsey projections of up to $1 trillion in orchestrated U.S. retail revenue by 2030, with $3 to $5 trillion globally.

The offering targets all FIS issuing bank clients by end of Q1 2026, positioning established financial institutions to participate in AI-mediated commerce rather than ceding the space to technology companies.
