Banking technology vendor Finzly has launched Assure, an AI-powered security and compliance layer built into BankOS, its core operating system for banks, as attacks on financial institutions increasingly move at machine speed.
What Happened
Assure replaces the periodic security review model most banks still run with continuous monitoring: ongoing attack-surface scanning, AI-assisted threat investigation, security testing that covers both traditional software and AI-assisted development, and automated collection of compliance evidence. Finzly cites TrendAI’s 2026 report finding AI-enabled attacks on financial institutions rose 89% year over year as the reason banks need continuous coverage rather than point-in-time audits. The system keeps a human in the loop during its current rollout, with fully automated response planned for later releases.
Why It Matters
Core banking vendors have spent the past two years selling AI as a customer-facing feature: chatbots, underwriting models, agentic payments. Assure is a reminder that the same AI systems are also the new attack surface, and that banks running AI-assisted development now need security tooling built for AI-speed threats, not the annual penetration test cycle most compliance programs were built around. It lands days after a ransomware breach at core banking vendor Jack Henry exposed how much damage a single vendor-side security gap can do across hundreds of client banks (Jack Henry Breach Exposes Core Banking’s Weak Link).
The Original Insight
The shift from periodic to continuous security review mirrors the shift payments infrastructure already went through with fraud detection, moving from batch review to real-time scoring (Visa Turns Fraud Detection Into a Shared Utility). Security compliance is following fraud detection’s playbook roughly five years behind, which suggests banks that treat Assure-style tooling as optional now will be retrofitting it under regulatory pressure later. “Banking is entering a new era where attacks happen at machine speed, requiring that intelligence, innovation, and trust evolve together,” said Finzly founder and CEO Booshan Rengachari.
