Financial data providers are no longer content to be a tab merchants open on the side. S&P Global expanded its partnership with Microsoft to bring the breadth of its market intelligence, research, and analytics directly into Microsoft 365 Copilot, so analysts can pull company research, transcript intelligence, and peer benchmarking without leaving the productivity tools they already use every day.
S&P Global Market Intelligence is leading the effort, drawing on its Kensho Data Platforms unit, the Capital IQ Pro platform, and the company’s AI Data Portal, built on a Deterministic Retrieval solution known as the Kensho LLM-ready API. The integration includes a Copilot in Excel connector for analyst workflows and a plugin for agentic experiences in Copilot Cowork, both designed to preserve source attribution so users can trace every figure back to its original citation. It builds on an existing integration of S&P Global’s energy data into Microsoft 365 Copilot from April 2025. Sally Moore, Chief Client Officer and Co-Head of Market Intelligence at S&P Global, said the collaboration with Microsoft is “shaping the next era of AI-ready data and intelligence-driven workflows.”
Why it matters: financial data vendors have spent the last two years building AI-ready APIs largely for their own chat interfaces. Embedding that data directly into Microsoft’s Copilot, alongside the kind of sovereign-model partnerships banks are striking themselves, such as the deal ABN Amro signed with Mistral AI, signals the next fight is over which data layer becomes the default inside the tools analysts already have open, not which chatbot wins.
The original insight: cited, governed retrieval is becoming the real product differentiator, not raw data volume. As banks build the kind of cross-institution AI governance seen in Singapore’s MAS-led cyber taskforce, a data provider that can guarantee source-attributed, auditable outputs inside an agentic workflow has a defensible edge that raw dataset size alone no longer provides.
