The European Parliament has passed the AI in Hiring Disclosure Act, requiring employers operating in EU member states to notify job candidates whenever an artificial intelligence system is used to make or materially influence a hiring decision. Employers must also provide candidates with a meaningful mechanism to request human review of any AI-generated decision. The law takes effect in 18 months for large employers and 24 months for companies with fewer than 250 employees.
Legal experts say the law is the most comprehensive regulation of AI in hiring globally, and could set a template for similar legislation in the United States and elsewhere.
