Tokenized funds have mostly stayed inside institutional plumbing. WisdomTree and MoonPay are now building the retail on ramp, and the deal signals where the next leg of tokenization adoption is actually headed: not new products, but new distribution.
WisdomTree and MoonPay announced a collaboration on September 17, 2026 to expand access to WisdomTree’s Treasury Money Market Digital Fund, ticker WTGXX, a tokenized money market mutual fund that targets a stable $1 share price. MoonPay will use WTGXX for its own stablecoin reserve management, while WisdomTree builds a new access point on MoonPay’s technology to reach its network of more than 35 million accounts across 180 countries. “Stablecoins are reshaping how people and businesses both hold and move value,” said Jonathan Steinberg, WisdomTree’s founder and CEO. Caroline D. Pham, CEO of MoonPay Institutional, called it a demonstration of “how financial innovation can enable better experiences for investors.” Distribution runs through WisdomTree Securities, a FINRA member; the fund holds about $1.23 billion of the roughly $15.4 billion tokenized U.S. Treasury market.
For a finance leader watching digital assets from the treasury side, the news is less about WTGXX specifically and more about the access model. Tokenized Treasury funds have grown for two years without a retail front door comparable to a brokerage app; this deal builds one on top of a stablecoin infrastructure company most consumers already touch through crypto onboarding, not a wealth platform. That is a distribution shortcut competitors will now need an answer for.
The original angle here is what MoonPay gets, not just WisdomTree. A wallet and on ramp provider putting a yield bearing tokenized Treasury fund inside its own reserve management signals that stablecoin issuers see idle reserve cash as the next place to compete on yield, using tokenized fund shares instead of bank deposits, the same way stablecoin infrastructure has been buying its way into payout rails elsewhere this month. Expect scrutiny to shift toward how transparently those reserves are marked, not just how fast they tokenize, a question already live for bank-hosted tokenization infrastructure.
